Charles Darwin formulated his theory of evolution after visiting the Galapagos Islands and noticing a particular bird species, the finch, looked and behaved differently on each of the islands. His ideas unleashed a firestorm of controversy! But – more importantly – what does this mean for wine? While all island climates are influenced by the ocean, they vary from lush and fertile to arid and rocky, and vineyard soils can include sand, volcanic ash, and more. Join Rachelle Goudreau for this one-hour, stand-up seminar on how the island isolation has given rise to unique wines and winemaking styles. Guests will taste examples from our own Vancouver Island, Sicily, Madeira, Tasmania, and beyond.
